2 out of 5 stars Great while it worked   September 2, 2010
D. K. Brooks
I really liked this TV. The picture was great but after 2 short months the set would no longer come on and the power light starts blinking. After some searching on the internet I discovered this is a common problem. The repair person said the panel was bad and not replaceable in the field. Set has been returned to Sharp and I'll post again after there is some resolution.

1 out of 5 stars Sharp Warranty void for cleaning the front glass on tv   August 15, 2010

Mostly sharp will void any warranties on their TV. I cleaned the screened as directed and they say I may have caused damage which gave me pixel lines from top to bottom of the tv set. They stated that the mear fact that I touched the TV prior to the problem void warranty because it may have caused physical damage.

5 out of 5 stars Sharp Aquos   August 9, 2010

I am glad I purchased through Amazon. I paid less than a discounted floor model at another retailer. The picture is clear, the sound is great. Good quality, great buy.

5 out of 5 stars Get it while the gettins' good...   August 5, 2010
Luis E. Marin (Washington, DC)
After all the searches, reviews, comparisons, etc., I finally decided on getting this LCD TV from Amazon; they had the best price & shipping was free! (I believe it was Electronics Expo that sold it through them)...anyway, I'm sooooo incredibly satisfied with this TV! Picture is absolutely stunning, The TV is so massive that you'd think that you are watching a 70'' TV! What everyone says about the gold bezel is true; you have to be in extremely bright light & close-up to notice it; otherwise the TV looks all black under normal light. I wish the menus were a little bit more complex i.e. more features; it seems a little simplified for me. I Googled different calibration settings & basically mimicked one that I found for another Aquos 55" that came out after this one. It came out perfect. All in all, I have to say that I'm really very satisfied with my purchase. Also, Aquos cust. serv. is top notch & they guided me through some connectivity issues I was having...folks, this is a $3,000 TV that, If you are one of the lucky ones, you can get it here for almost half off; definitely worth it...

3 out of 5 stars Great Picture for HD, many sound problems   July 30, 2010

I am somewhat disappointed in this unit, which I have owned for several months.
The picture is absolutely superb with HD, Blu-Ray or 16x9 DVD content. Over-The-Air content also looks great. You can select several video options, some of which make film seem so vibrant that you might think you are looking out a window (depending on the source).
While the picture on some sources is nothing less than startlingly good, other source material is disappointing. For example, the playback of some recordings I made with my dvd recorders, 4x3 satellite material, and other older stuff, like videotape is very disappointing. The problem is not that they appear low-resolution-- that would be expected, and actually artifacts are minimal. No, the problem is with aspect ratios. There are very limited zooming or stretching options for some sources. The display seems to "know" what options you would want, and only gives you the ones it thinks you want. This is frustrating if you know a DVD is 4x3 and the TV thinks it is 16x9 and won't let you "unstretch" it. I hate squishy pictures.
The other major problem with the TV, which others have noted, is the audio. Actually, there are two problems. ONE, the volume is very limited (depending upon the source). Oddly, the volume on-screen indicator goes up to 60, but the volume coming from the speakers does not actually get any louder after 40. The sense is that the unit is supposed to be half again louder than it is or something, but it does not get any louder.
TWO, there is a sound sync problem with some sources. Granted, this is a problem with many digital TVs, especially with analog source material, as the picture takes longer to process than the sound. Manufacturers thus put a delay in the sound so that it can "keep up" with the slower to process picture. The thing with this TV is that the delay for the sound sometimes appears to be too long, so the picture shows someone saying something before you hear them say it. This must be correctable using the settings for the TV, but I have not been able to find the settings to change it.
Since I watch a lot of 4x3 material (DVDs of old movies and TV shows) and still view some analog sources, this TV has been a mix of amazement and frustration.

Get this if you plan to watch digital source material (including blu-ray, streaming video, and HDMI-connected DVD players) or intend to hook it up as a giant computer monitor (which is great fun, by the way). This is especially true if you plan to use an external audio amplifier/tuner.

If you need to rely on its built-in sound system, watch a lot of 4x3 material or plan to view analog sources, be prepared for some work-arounds and adjustments. You will have to weigh the benefits of great picture against the costs of sound and source compromises for yourself.
